When looking at classical warriors the Japanese Samurai are
often one of people’s first choices for colour and their unique attire and
weapons. When sculpting for yourself you often think it would be good to have a

This very well-known historical figure from Pegaso
represents the 12th century classical Japanese warrior Minamoto no
Yoshitsune and he and his faithful steed are part of Japanese culture and
folklore.
Minamoto no Yoshitsune was born in 1159 and lived for only a short thirty years
until 1189. He was a general of the Minamoto clan of Japan he is considered one
of the greatest and the most popular warriors of his era, and one of the most
famous samurai fighters in the history of Japan.
This famous image of
him charging down a slope into battle is one of the most famous in classical Japanese
art history.
Victor Konnov has sculpted him in a large piece – quite heavy
– in white metal in 90mm or 1/20th scale and he is painted here in
colours not unlike the famous picture of him by Diego Ruina.

This samurai bust is seen in a sculpt from Martin Gouric and
painted by Mirko Cavalloni, he wears all the traditional trappings of the
warrior class in traditional japan, a winged helmet and hard layered armour
which could resist many blades and was strong and light.
Not only was it strong and light it could be decorated by
the wearer in their preferred colours so you could paint yours in any colours
you wanted. The two sword handles coming
from his waist.
The dragon emblem on his chest, the lion on his helmet and
the rope tying his armour onto his body are just some of the exquisite detail
he has – look for longer and you see more he is a lovely piece.
