The B-1B is still one of the largest, fastest and most advanced long-range bombers in the USAF and forms the backbone of the Strategic Air Command. The swing-wing bomber is capable of carrying a 34 ton weapon load internally as well as 26 tons externally. It has a range of 12,000 km (7452 miles) at high altitude and can penetrate deep into enemy territory. The B-1B successfully withstood its baptism of fire in Operation Desert Fox in the war against Iraq. As planned successor to the B-52 the B-1A undertook its maiden flight in 1977 but then the program was delayed. The first B-1B was delivered to the USAF on 27.07.1985. The radar irradiation surface of the B-1B is only 25% that of the B-52. The weapon load has also been increased enormously. In three internal weapons bays both cruise missiles, guided missiles on a rotating bomb-bay system and conventional bombs can be carried.

The four GE F-101 engines each generate a thrust of 13,620 kg with afterburner. The maximum speed at an altitude of 10,600 metres (35,000 ft) is 1324 Km/h (822 mph).

The Su-27 Flanker is known worldwide as one of the best fighter aircraft. It has spectacular manoeuvrability which is achieved for example by modifying the wing leading edges. Due to the powerful thrust of its engines the Su-27 is easily able to perform the legendary Cobra maneouver. This air superiority fighter was developed to counter the F-15 Eagle and entered service in 1984. After 1991 the Su-27 modernization program came to a halt. Development was only continued after later export successes. At the end of 2004 the first Su-27 SM's were delivered to front line aviation units. The AL-31 FM engine now produces 13.5 tons of thrust. To meet the many different demands made on the German army’s pioneer force in the Second World War, it was necessary to form increasingly specialized task units, such as the landing pioneers, the tank and parachute units. A special mention should also be made of the storm units which operated with the infantry to lead direct attacks on enemy strongholds.

After the massed appearance of the Soviet T-34 the Germans developed the V Panther armoured combat vehicle (Sd.Kfz 171) which was used for the first time as version D in 1943. The necessary improvements gave rise to version A at the end of 1943. With its 7.5 cm 42 L/70 combat vehicle gun, by the end of the war the Panther had proved its superiority to most enemy combat tanks. The V 12 cylinder Otto engine with a capacity of 600 HP provided the 44,800 kg heavy Panther with a maximum speed of up to 55 km/h. It was crewed by five men.
