In June we looked at a massive set of twelve (yes 12!) resin figures and tankers "Panzer Riders, Hungary 1945 - Big Set" from Stalingrad Miniatures. Now, modellers who want a single or a few of these figures only can purchase them separately. We look at these single figures and the photos that inspired the sculptor in our preview...
Preview: 35th scale "Panzer Riders & Crew" Single figures from Stalingrad Miniatures...
Stalingrad Miniatures have split up their "big set" of tankers from the end days of WWII they release back in June. These figures are sold only in a set of thirteen tankers to suit a Panzer IV in 35th scale. Now they are sold separately we thought we would look at them as singles in our preview...
Panzer Crewman 1943-45
Set No #3221
From Stalingrad Miniatures
Sculpted by Alexander Zelenkov
1/35th scale
Sculpted in grey resin
This tanker is seen in winter gear riding in the radioman / MG gunner's position in the front hatch of a Panzer IV. In winter gear, with camouflage Panzerwrap. You can see the photo he was based upon below...
Sculpted as a full body figure by Alexander Alexander Zelenkov, he is seen here leaning forward, nothing left out of the body language even though most of him would not have been seen inside the tank. The wrinkles of his clothing is very well depicted in grey resin.
Here he is painted up, and looking very much better for all of the detail work put in place by the sculptor. The wired headphone (cans) and throat mic add a layer of extra texture to the figure.Panzer Crewman 1943-45

From Stalingrad Miniatures
Sculpted by Alexander Zelenkov
1/35th scale
Sculpted in grey resin
This tanker is seen in winter gear riding in the turret loader's side of a Panzer IV. In winter gear, with camouflage smock and in this case a flat forage cap on his head. You can see the photo he was based upon below...
Sculpted as a full body figure by Alexander Alexander Zelenkov, he is seen here sitting down, but in a relaxed pose. Care is taken to leave nothing out of the detail of the figure even though most of him would not be seen inside the tank.
Here he is painted up. The reversible camouflage smock can of course be painted either way, and of note here are the details of the woolen beanie under his flat forage cap and his thick wool lined boots.Panzergrenadier 1944-45

This Soldier is seen in winter gear riding on the rear side of a Panzer IV. In winter gear, with camouflage smock. You can see the photo he was based upon below...
Sculpted as a full body figure by Alexander Alexander Zelenkov, he is seen holding on to his panzerfaust, with reversible parka and lined pants, his hands wrapped in thick mittens and his head protected by his M43 helmet.
Here he is painted up, and looking very much better for all of the detail work put in place by the sculptor. You can see more of the detail of the figure with his backpack and gear including his bread bag and flask (wonder what's in there?) in the sculpt. Panzergrenadier 1944-45
Set No #3224
From Stalingrad Miniatures
Sculpted by Alexander Zelenkov
1/35th scale
Sculpted in grey resin
Riding on the rear of the Panzer IV and having a smoke, this tanker is in winter gear, with camouflage reversible smock and pants. You can see the photo he was based upon below...
Sculpted as a full body figure by Alexander Alexander Zelenkov, he is seen sitting down with something(a smoke - how dangerous) in his hand as the tank trundles along.
Here he is painted up, with all of his equipment picked out by the painter to give us a better impression of what he is carrying. his camouflage zeltbahn, mess tin, flask, bread bag, entrenching shovel and ammo or his MG 44 are seen clearly here. Lots of detail in this guy's equipment.Panzergrenadier 1943-45
Set No #3225
From Stalingrad Miniatures
Sculpted by Alexander Zelenkov
1/35th scale
Sculpted in grey resin
This tanker is seen in winter gear riding on the rear of the turret of the Panzer IV. You can see the photo he was based upon below...
Sculpted by Alexander Alexander Zelenkov, he is seen here holding his Kar.98 rifle, looking a little forlorn as probably the cold is biting into his bones.
Here he is painted up,with the reverse picture showing his gear hanging on his harness. The soldier's reversible pants and lined trousers are a repeating theme here as they were so ffective and the winter so harsh. Panzergrenadier 1943-45
Set No #3226
From Stalingrad Miniatures
Sculpted by Alexander Zelenkov
1/35th scale
Sculpted in grey resin
This soldier is seen in winter gear riding on the Panzer IV on the (rather warm) rear deck in winter gear, with camouflage smock. You can see the photo he was based upon below - the tank in the centre ad the tanker ont he rear just behind the cross...
Sculpted by Alexander Alexander Zelenkov, he is seen leaning on one arm for support, his thick, lined pants and parka can be reversed if you like. Again he has a little bit of a forlorn facial expression I think.
Here he is painted up, and looking very much better for all of the detail work put in place by the sculptor. The gear he has, laden with grenades, an MP40 and ammo, water flask, mess tin, zeltbahn and pack really give depth to this figure.
Panzer Riders, Hungary 1945 Big Set
From Stalingrad Miniatures

1/35th scale
Set includes: 13 figures and accessories in grey resin
Set No #S-3220
We are lucky enough to get a photo of the scene that inspired this set, the Panzer IV's heading off into the cold with soldiers warmly dressed holding on tight to the lurching tank as it goes forward...
Here is the sculpt, with a lot of those soldier's body language, clothing and expressions of their faced duplicated in resing.
Another photo of if not the same scene one very close to it. The faces of the tankers can clearly be seen in this shot - the deck of the tank full of any gear and men that can fit...
This shot of the set mirrors the above photo almost to a tee - the man looking directly at the camera as the tank trundles past is almost uncanny...
These figures are sold as a singles and as the big set - they are available right now - check these out and all of Alexander's other works at the Stalingrad Website:
