The Subject: The Mtl/ Zgkrwg, 8t Sd.Kfz 7 Halftrack
The Sd.Kfz.7 is an eight-ton towing half-track used by the German Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS during World War II. In 1934, the KMm8 developed by Krauss Maffei was adopted as the Sd.Kfz.7, and in 1938, the KMm11, with a greatly redesigned bonnet, was adopted and mass-produced as the new Sd.Kfz.7. This model was also produced by Borgwald, and from 1943 onwards also by Saurer. The vehicle could carry up to 12 soldiers and was also used to tow medium-calibre artillery.
Sd.Kfz. 7 half track Eastern Front - a great diorama idea we think!
The predominant part of these vehicles was equipped with an artillery superstructure and was used as towing vehicles for medium class guns. In total 199 m. Zgkw. 8t were manufactured under license - with minor changes - by BREDA in Italy. Less known was the attempt of the British to copy the m. Zgkw. 8t. A testing vehicle was produced by Vauxhall Motors. The end of war terminated these attempts.
