We can hear the complaints and the "What about making this instead's" already, but Takom have not released a Tiger I under their own brand as of yet, so why not let them have a go? They don't make money from other people's Tiger I kits do they? See what we found about the new release in our preview...
Takom have their own 35th scale Tiger I Ausf.E (Mid) release...
Soooo about a week ago Takom did the pre-release-release and hinted at the three Tiger I's they they have in the pipeline. Cue the reactions on both sides, good, why? and Why not this vague vehicle instead that we always seem to hear. We are positive however, that the designers will have done enough to make this into a release worth considering, and so, worth the making. Like we said, Takom do not make any money from the kits they don't sell in that type. We also think they have the runs on the board with a variety of varied designs over the years.
We now have CADs of the first in the series, a Tiger I Ausf.E Mid production vehicle, this one with moulded on zimmerit. Let's see what we found from the images we received...
Sd.Kfz.181 Pz.Kpfw.VI Ausf.E - Tiger I Mid Production w/Zimmerit
From Takom
Kit No: 2198
1/35th scale
Stowage included
Tracks with a jig included for assembly
Photo-etch included
Metal barrel option included.
Twisted cable provided for towing cable
Price: TBA from Hobbylink Japan
A close up showing the surfaces of the hull and turret and the zimmerit that Takom's designer has moulded to this kit. Impressive, but if you want to change this you will need to carve some away.
Some of the options included in this kit are highlighted in pastel shades here. Hatches, air vents, shovel and front and rear towing lugs are all provided.
Metal is provided in the way of an option of the large 88mm barrel replica in either metal or plastic. We know which one you will chose! The turned wire for the towing cable and the thin photo-etch is included to replicate the thinner parts of the kit in 35th scale. We turn our minds now to the optional extras of the kit. This is a great way of not only adding value, but a selling point to the kit that someone with just say the Dragon Tiger I w/Zimmerit maybe think about purchasing this variant. Wooden un-bogging logs & jack stands, a ladder, an MG dusk jacket, cloth covering for the cupola and the main gun muzzle break are good additions. The helmets, barrels, Jerry cans and what Tiger kit is complete without a bucket!!
The tracks are supplied with a jig to help in putting them together. They look like individual links which will please as many people as they displease!
That is all we know about this releases for now. You can see more about Takom's kits on their website or on their Facebook page.
