Duke Hawkins 32nd edition features the LTV A-7 Corsair II. Ina softcover book features148 pages with over 350 photos in colour.
This book will prove ideal to hyper detail the many A-7 kits available in or soon to be in your stash. The A-7 was introduced into the US Navy in 1967 as a replacement for the A-4 Skyhawk. When the US Air Force noticed how well the jet was performing, they wanted their own version. This was to become the A-7D, a Corsair II with a more powerful engine and a Vulcan gun instead of two 20 mm cannons on either side of the forward fuselage. This version in turn impressed the US Navy and they asked LTV to develop a navalized version of the new jet: the A-7E.
This book shows the different versions of the Corsair II, from the A-7A, A-7B and the A-7E to the two-seat versions, like the A-7K and TA-7C. Photos were taken from aircraft that were active in the US Navy, US Air Force & Air National Guard, Hellenic Air Force and Portuguese Air Force.
No detail is overlooked in this book: fuselage, wings & wing folds, landing gear & wheel wells, vertical tail, engine exhaust, avionics bays, speed brake, arrestor hook - all these details are mixed in with a hefty dose of action, showing the Corsair II from every angle in the air. Some really impressive photos of the jet flying at low-level are included.
A 16-page chapter shows the A-7s cockpit in close detail, both the single and two-seat version. A close-up of both types of ejection seats used in the Corsair II is included: the ESCAPAC and the Stencil SJU-8. This book also includes an extensive chapter on maintaining the jet, showing details such as the radar, open panels, engine bay, gun and ammo-bay, and the engine out of the fuselage.
This book is due in February in your local hobby shop.
