The Subject: China's Type-055 Guided-Missile Destroyer

The Type-055 destroyer is a newly developed, 10,000-ton class fleet air-defence destroyer, designed by China's 701 Research Institute, and built by Jiangnan Shipyard and Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Company. It is the largest surface combat vessel built in Asia, since World War II, and the first batch of eight ships have already entered service. The Type-055 features gas turbines in combined gas and gas (COGAG) arrangement and a universal vertical launch system (VLS). Equipped with advanced air and surface radar, it can detect and respond to threats from both sea and air.

Its 112-cell universal VLS, among other weapon systems, creates an impenetrable air defence network. Additionally, the ship carries the YJ-21 hypersonic anti-ship ballistic missile, capable of striking enemy vessels beyond the operational range of carrier-based aircraft. The introduction of the Type-055 destroyer significantly enhances the Chinese Navy's blue-water operational capabilities. It is capable of performing a wide range of combat missions while providing comprehensive protection for carrier strike groups.

The guided-missile frigates - Hengyang (Hull 568) and the guided-missile destroyer Wuhan (Hull 169) attached to a destroyer flotilla with the navy under the PLA Southern Theatre Command, steam alongside with each other during a maritime manoeuvre operation in waters of the South China Sea in June 2020.

The new-tooled 1/700th scale MENG kit noPS-009 of the Chinese Type-055 Guided-Missile Destroyer in 1/700th scale. this kit will be 257mm long, 29mm wide and 64mm high (without it's display base). This kit features an accurate ship profile, pre-moulded parts of different colours and an easy assembly. This kit includes a ship-borne helicopter model of the Z-20. The naval gun and weapon platforms around the hull are rotatable. The kit includes fine decals, a display base and corresponding metal texture stickers.
