by Trumpeter
Kit No# 00953
1/16th scale
The Sd.Kfz. 165 Hummel was a German self-propelled howitzer used during World War II, known for its mobile artillery support of armoured units. Armed with a 15 cm sFH 18/1 howitzer, it provided indirect fire support and could keep pace with advancing tank formations. The Hummel, designed to support tanks with its mobile artillery, saw action from early 1943 until the end of the war

The Hummel boasts impressive cross-country mobility, rivalling that of the tanks from which its chassis was adapted. Its Maybach HL120 TRM petrol engine delivers up to 300 horsepower, enabling a maximum speed of 42 kilometres per hour on roads and an operational range exceeding 200 kilometres. The Hummel was the most widely used self-propelled howitzer in Nazi Germany's arsenal during the final three years of World War II. Although relatively few were produced compared to towed howitzers, over 700 Hummels were manufactured. These vehicles primarily supported panzer divisions, with a typical battery consisting of six Hummels and one ammunition carrier. The majority of Hummels saw action on the eastern front against Soviet forces.
